When I was beginning to build the 550-person sales team at ZipRecruiter, I had to set the tone for how the sales team would operate by selecting a set of values.One of the 3 values I chose was🔎 TransparencyWhat did I mean by Transparency and why is that important to all sales leaders?It's really simple. • Don't lie.• Don't lie to yourself,• Don't lie to the customers,• Don't lie to your co-workers.🚫 There's no need to lie and if you do, there will be consequences. This includes lying by omission. Even when we were hiring 40 salespeople per month, I would speak to every new hire class that started and personally deliver these values, with a lot more detail of course. They were that important to me and if you're a sales leader, I can't see how a *transparent* sales team wouldn't be important to you too. Absolutely. When you encounter a candidate who establishes an immediate connection, radiates trust and integrity, and navigates through your reservations with ease, it’s hard to ignore their potential. If they also have an impressive resume, present themselves well, and show a willingness to go above and beyond for the company, it’s puzzling why they would be overlooked in favor of someone who simply checks all the boxes and interviews well, yet lacks these exceptional qualities.Hiring managers in sales should always prioritize the principle that people buy from those they like first, and what they know second. Sticking rigidly to a script might bring you experience, but it doesn’t always result in sales. Don’t miss out on great candidates just because they don’t meet every criterion on a checklist. Experience is not equal to drive, integrity,likeability, trustworthiness, mental ability or innovation. Those are the skills organizations desperately need and can’t teach. Great Interview question to discover these people : What did you do at your last job that was not apart of your role that helped someone else or your organization succeed? The creme de la creme can give you multiple examples to this question for every single company they worked at with out hesitation. These are the game changers and are exceptionally rare and regularly overlooked by hiring managers.
